Your rights and what to expect in therapy



If you are new to therapy, you might not know what to expect. Here are a list of your rights in the therepeutic practice.

  • You have a right to participate and develop your own treatment plan.
  • You have a right to participate voluntary in and to consent to treatment
  • You have a right to object to or terminate treatment
  • You have a right to see your own records
  • You have a right to receive clinically appropriate care and treatment that is suited to your needs
  • You have a right that treatment will be conducted skillfully, safely, and humanely with full respect for their dignity and personal integrity.
  • You have a right to be treated in a manner that is ethical and free from discrimination
  • You have a right that all sessions will be confidential
  • You have a right to be informed of expected results and possible adverse consequences
  • You have a right to ask for a new therapist
  • You have a right to rescind any releases of information that you may have signed
