You have plenty of options when it comes to therapy. But, you need to find one you are comfortable with and one that shares the same worldviews and values. There are very few therapists in WNY that identify as a feminist. Feminist therapy is not strictly just for women. This particular model is an approach that recognizes how societal and gender roles impact our mental health. Women and other marginalized groups experience additional challenges in their lives as they encounter oppression, stereotyping and discrimination. They are more likely to experience violence, threats of violence or harassment in their lives, often from a domestic partner or ex-partner. Because of these obstacles, feminist therapy is not just personal, it is political in nature as well and committed to both individual and societal change.
